Uncooked “Eggs”

I’m building a nest as an exchange for a swap put on by Speckled Egg.   I wanted to use what I had on hand, so I’ve been building components from things I’ve collected and leftovers from art school.  I still have a lot of polymer clay that I used to  build macquettes, little models, of products.

I’m not a huge fan polymer clay for model making.  For making a simple model, such as an egg, it would be difficult to come up with an easier material.  I mixed tan and white together then rolled them into an egg shape.  Because I wanted a speckled egg with some depth, I rolled the uncooked clay some powdered coffee and spices before baking (egg on right).

Cooked & Coated Eggs

To add even more depth to the speckles on my egg, I covered the eggs with PVA glue and rolled them in more powdered coffee and spices.

Sealed Eggs

After the glue dried, I sprayed the eggs with a few coats of sealer to smooth out my speckles.  They’re a bit shiney, but I need to move on to building my nest…

Cool ideas! have you received your partner info? I have not so was just checking.

  2. No, I haven’t received my exchange partner yet. I thought I would show the pieces as I finish them. I just finished taking pictures of the bird.

I may only show the pieces until it is on it’s way.

  4. Thank you. I haven’t posted any of my models or maquettes. I have only saved a few over the years. I did photograph some before I had a digital camera. My photography skills were worse than they are now. Maybe I’ll dig them out and post a few to flicker.
