cupcakes

No, I haven’t joined the cupcake bandwagon.  I don’t make cupcakes very often.  I like them.  Who wouldn’t?  They’re yummy!  I just don’t think it’s a good idea to eat too many.

I bought a whole kit for making gum paste flowers a while ago at a garage sale from a woman who decorates cakes.  I’ve wanted to try gum paste for a long time and I really really (yes two reallys) want to take a fondant class.  It’s not the cake that interests me.  I just want make something pretty.  The cake taste the same to me whether it’s decorated with plain white buttercream frosting or the theme of the day.

My kids on the other hand think that cakes tastes much better when they are decorated.  My youngest insisted that I buy canned frosting for her birthday cake because she didn’t like my buttercream frosting.  Yet when I frosted cupcakes last week with a lime green buttercream frosting and added pink gum paste flowers, she thought the frosting was the best thing she ever tasted.  Huh??

My kids have been lucking out lately.  Since I can’t seem to remember to sign up for a cake decorating class, I decided to satisfy my urge to make a pretty cake by playing with my cutters.  I’m just in the experimental phase right now, trying out each cutter.  I think I’ve figured out the rolling, cutting and placing.  It’s probably time for me to move on to something more complicated.

It’s unlikely that I’ll replace Martha Stewart anytime soon or join the Ace of Cakes crew, but I’ve seemed to convince my kids that buttercream frosting is much better than the canned stuff.  At least they’re convinced when I color it lime green and add some flowers.

Now the next question, if I decorate my cupcake do I have to eat it with a fork?

These cupcakes are gorgeous. I would only use a fork if the queen was coming to eat them with you :-)

  2. Thank you.

Hmmm…reminds me of a story. I once had a professor send me email saying that unless I was dining with the Queen, I should be at an alumni dinner. Needless to say, I didn’t dine with the Queen.

I did try eating my cupcake with a fork. Funny, it did make me feel a little like a queen.
