Announcing Not So Plain Jane, A New Altered Art Doll
April 22, 2008
Not so Plain Jane is a mixed media found art altered doll. She stands about 12 1/2″ tall. She is made from wood spools, old knitting needles, a mold, and jewelry findings. She’s deceptively simple. Her parts are quite common, but the combination makes for an interesting and charming doll. I’ve painted her face with acrylics and sealed the paint. She can either be displayed sitting or be hung on a wall.
She was inspired by a beautiful woman I saw at the swimming pool. Have you ever seen a woman who you immediately think is friendly and very attractive? Yet when you look close at her, her individual features are quite plain. The woman love her because she’s so approachable and the men think she’s gorgeous. She makes the most of what she has to create an outstanding package.
I think I created an altered doll with just such a package. I hope you like my not so Plain Jane. Thanks for taking a peek!

Freaking awesome, Sue! I love her Clara Bowe haircut and her face is awesome. The tune is catchy, too.
Great!

Hi Cindy! Thanks! I wanted to add Plain Jane by Bobby Darrin, but it wouldn’t load.

Thank you Michelle! You’re lucky you didn’t end up with a pixie cut, like me. Everyone thought I was a boy.

I had that one too!
And the Moe haircut from the Three Stooges!
