Stuffing Wire Armature

The next step after wrapping my batting around my wire armature is to add some shape to my fiber art doll.  Following one example in the Anatomy of a Doll book, I sewed on strips of nylon.  Then I stuffed polyfil in side and sewed down the nylon.  I used my needle and thread to sculpt the little creases we all have at our joints.  I chose to completely shape my figure with the nylon and stuffing.  I wanted a very round figure.

The next step is to add the head.  I first bent down the wire loop of my armature.  I did drill two holes in the Rummikub® so that I could sew the head to the wire.  The Rummikub® is felt covered so that I can sew down the sides in the back.

The doll will no longer easily stand up (although I can make it stand up) on it’s own right now because the Rummikub® is heavy.  I placed the doll in my hand to give you an idea of the doll’s size.  You can see the two holes that I drilled to sew the Rummikub® to the wire frame.  I’ve also sewed the sides of the Rummikub® to the doll.  The stuffed doll looks messy right now.  I know the doll will be covered in fabric, so I’m not too worried about my stitching.

It’s a big weekend.  I’m eager to work on doll clothing.  We have a lot going on.  I’ll have to see when I can work on my little fiber art doll again.
