I finished 7 catnip mouse. Even though I can’t exactly rave about their beauty, the instructions for making them are quite simple. So simple that someone else probably has made mice like these before.
As you saw in my post from yesterday, I used a 5″x5″ square of leftover (scrap) faux fur fabric. I sewed the fabric into a cone shape.
I made beady eyes with red embroidery thread before I stuffed the mouse. I first put in a wad of polyfil, then catnip, then more polyfil.
I trimmed around the face so you can see the beady little eyes on my mouse.
I tucked in the top part of my cone. The top part is shaped like a triangle. When I sew the seam, the mouse will look triangular from the rear.
I braided tree strands of yarn together and knotted the pieces together on both ends. Notice that the mouses rear end is flat. I want a well rounded mouse with a tail, so I have a little bit of shaping to do.
I sew the yarn tail to one of the points in the rear of my mouse. Then I sew both points together tucking and sewing the yarn tail end inside my seam.
You can see that my mouse is now rounded in the rear.
The tail of the mouse is centered in the back.
Viola! I have a finished catnip mouse. Very simple, don’t you think?

Soooo…where’s the picture of them being enjoyed?

When I was building them, I was covered in catnip. The cats were loving me.
I’ll have to vaccum the floor and put a mouse down and take some pictures. I’m so far behind in my cleaning.
