I have a 4thof July gift exchange coming up. Since I had already painted some wood stars in the Americana style, I thought I would continue with the Americana theme. I already had a couple of paper mache boxes. I thought I might as well use them.
The boxes are round and look very much like hat boxes. I painted the top of the box blue, the rim of the lid white and the bottom of the container red. I added red stripes to the lid rim by using blue masking tape. I just eyeballed the stripes. I figured the good stuff will be inside. The container didn’t need to be perfect.
On the top of the box, I used a pencil to trace around one of my wooden stars. Again I just eyeballed the placement of the star. I painted the inside of the star white. I didn’t worry too much about whether the star was perfectly painted. I added some trim around the star with gold paint. I also added a little gold trim around the top and bottom of the box.
I painted the bottom of the box blue. I know hardly anyone looks at the bottom. I just didn’t like looking at the imperfect kraft brown bottom.
The painting on the box is fairly simple and still gets my theme across. The nice thing about the box is it keeps me from going crazy with my gift exchange. I have a habit of taking on too many projects. I can only fit so many things within the box. Now I just have to figure out what I want to make to put inside the box.
The great thing about going Americana for the 4th of July exchange is that the decorations can be used year round. Americana is a good style any time of year.
