Never Overlook the Free Box at a Garage Sale
July 1, 2008
Usually it is my kids who scour the free boxes at the garage sale. This past weekend I actually looked at the free box. My husband had bought a washing machine and dryer at a moving sale (we have rentals) and the whole family went along. While we were waiting for him to load the appliances, we browsed the sale.
Inside the free box was fabric paint. Since I was working on a painted fabric project at home the box caught my eye. By the time I found the box my husband was ready to go, so I just grabbed the whole box including the fabric paint. I realized later that the box also contained fabric with appliques and heat bond.
Yesterday I pulled out the box. My daughter wanted to embellish some t-shirts. She picked out the appliques for each t-shirt. I did the cutting and bonding. She did some of the painting around the edges of the appliques.
After I finished the first 3 projects, I thought “Wow! What a great thrifty project for kids!”. She already had a bunch of blank t-shirts. All the applique material was free. The t-shirts look great and we had a great time making them.
By the way she has 6 more t-shirts lined up to embellish.

Is this J again?! Crafty wee thing, isn’t she?! Just like mom.

That’s so cool! Finds like that are so rewarding, especially when it’s free! And those t-shirts are so adorable, especially the cowboy one. Love them! ^___^

Yes, it’s J. She has too many ideas. I finally plugged in the glue gun today, gave her a pair of flip flops and some embellishments and told her to go for it.
Yes Helena it’s great when you find good stuff for free. Although if my youngest keeps asking me to help her with her projects, I might have to start charging her for my labor.
