Breakfast Toast, Jam and Tea

I was finally able to keep the kids out of the garden long enough to get strawberries for making jam.  Fresh strawberry jam is a real treat for me in the winter.   The bright red is so cheerful on those cold winter mornings.  I can sit down with my cup of tea, chai with cream,  a couple slices of hazelnut toasts slathered with jam, and a magazine.  What a great way to start the morning.

Strawberry Freezer Jam

I made 6 cups of jam to put in the freezer.

Strawberry is the only type of jam I make for the freezer.  I cook the rest of my jams.  I just think homemade strawberry jam tastes better when I use the no cook method.   Luckily, the kids prefer blackberry jam!

My Mom always made Strawberry Freezer jam with her home grown strawberries. I really miss that Jam as I had it almost every day on some toast after school. Thanks for the happy memory!

  2. OH! How long does the freezer jam last in the freezer? Is that the recipe you have on your site?

  3. Never mind…that was for apple butter. :(

  4. Well Cindy you could make some of your own.

I didn’t use my own recipe for no cook jam, it’s on the back of the pectin package.

I used packages of Sure-gel. The packages I had called for 2 cups of crushed fruit, 1 cup of sugar, 1 package of sure-gel and 1/4 cup of hot water.

You can find some recipes on http://www.cooks.com, try this http://www.cooks.com/rec/search?q=no+cook+strawberry+jam

  5. I forgot to answer the question about how long it keeps. It keeps for a year in the freezer. Of course, I never have mine in the freezer that long. It’s too yummy!

  6. Thanks Sue! I have a couple of boxes of sure-gel at home. Will take a peek-see at it tonight. There are a couple of farmers markets tomorrow around town, will go get some strawberrys and maybe some blueberries too…since you didn’t save me a piece of that blueberry pie! :(

  7. That toast looks so good! My mouth is watering.
