Perennial Happiness Necklace

I don’t have an inspiration then go out and seek items to complete my inspired vision. I collect “things”. Some time later I take a variety of things group them together and wait for inspiration. Usually I start with one “thing” and collect other “things” to go with it. I’ve been working on recycled earring backs for the past two days. In particular I’ve been using earring backs in new ways to create some one of a kind jewelry. Yesterday I showed you a bracelet. Today I have a necklace.

Perennial Happiness Backs

You can see the earring backs behind the flowers in the necklace.  I thought they looked like the little green petals left at the bottom of a flower after the bud opens.

I call my necklace Perennial Happiness because these flowers, like perennials, will last a very long time and flowers, to me, always look happy. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Earth Laughs in Flowers”

Perennial Happiness Flowers

The flowers are vintage findings that I’ve had for quite a few years. The faceted beads in the center and the seed bead on top are recent garage sale finds. The oat-shaped gold beads at the back of the flowers are vintage from an estate sale. I found them still in their package.  Even the headpins and wire in this necklace were acquired at a garage sale.  The lobster clasp and jump rings are new.

It’s amazing the simple things that I can find around my house for inspiration.  I love thinking of ways to reuse or re-purpose items.  Creating a beautiful one of kind found object piece is very rewarding.  Look around your house.  Maybe you can get inspired too! You might even find perennial happiness. ;-)
