THE SIX INCH SQUARE CLUB

Agnes the Red started a flickr group for messy artist.  It’s called the Six Inch Square Club.  To join you have to show some of your workspace.  Although, it’s very embarrassing, I decided to photograph some of my spaces.

Jewelry/Altering Space

This is a 6″ square of the table where I most frequently work.  I do a lot of jewelry here and some altered art.  I’ve actually been cleaning up.  That only happens when I’m desperately looking for something in particular and the only way to find it is to start putting things away.  You can still see buttons, broken jewelry, doll parts and even eyeballs.

 Lighting Parts Table

No tour of my work spaces would be complete if I didn’t show some of my lighting space.  This is a whole table filled with lighting parts.  I guess I have some gutter guard (for altered art) and shutters (for whatever) on the bench as well.

 Lighting parts other angle

Here’s a closeup of that space.  You can see nipples, cords, hickeys, and shade holders.

 Workbench

Since we just had a garage sale over Labor Day weekend, I had to clean off my workbench.  I do my soldering and drilling on this bench.  It’s normally filled with odds and ends.  If I solder, I do have to clean off a bigger space, so I don’t catch my garage on fire. ;-)

OK, I’ve thoroughly exposed myself.  I think I can now count myself an official member of the Six Inch Square Club.

Haha. This cracks me up! I’ve totally done this!

As you know, I have the same affliction! Maybe there’s a 12-step program we can join! I’m KIDDING! (kinda)

  3. Now you know why my husband decided to remodel a studio space for me!

Isn’t it pitiful? I’ve been cleaning my house all morning (and early afternoon). I never seem to get around to cleaning up my work spaces unless I’ve lost something. I didn’t even bother to show my sewing space and stashes.

Surprisingly most of my supplies and especially my soft goods (fabrics, yarn, trims) are stored in containers. I’ve learned to package up my finished items immediately. I’m sort of a half-slob in need of a 12-step program.

Thanks for sharing this. I’m feeling abit better about my space :)

  5. LOL. It’s the hazard of being a recycle artist in a country full of massive consumers. I’m thinking I should just open shop in the Goodwill Outlet…just joking…not a bad idea though.
